Kentucky Special Olympics marks 30th anniversary with EKU and City of Richmond

by City of Richmond PR

The Kentucky Special Olympics Summer Games is celebrating its 30th anniversary being held on Eastern Kentucky University's campus this year and will be hosted by the City of Richmond at EKU again.

The City of Richmond and EKU will celebrate this milestone by having a mini parade featuring the Special Olympics athletes during their annual torch run on Friday, June 6 at 4 p.m. The City of Richmond requests that supporters stand along Lancaster Avenue starting around 3:30 - 3:45 p.m. to cheer on participants and volunteers.

The goal is to line Lancaster Avenue (from West Main Street to the EKU pedway) with as many supporters as possible. The city asks that you make a sign, wave a flag, carry balloons and cheer on the guests. Parking will be available in EKU's Adams lot, EKU's Lancaster lot or at Richmond City Park.

The torch run begins at the Richmond Police Department at 4 p.m. The Police escort of the procession will reach Lancaster Avenue at approximately 4:15 p.m. The entire event will last around an hour.

It's the city's sincere hope that you will come out and be a part of this uniquely Richmond event. If you would like more information please contact Phillip Seyfrit at 859-624-0013 between 10 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
