Deborah Lynn Merritt
June 16, 2025

Deborah Lynn Merritt, a cherished mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2025, in Macomb, Michigan. Born on February 19, 1957, in Berea, Kentucky, Deborah’s life was a tapestry of love, commitment, and faith, woven through every relationship she nurtured and every endeavor she undertook.
A proud daughter to her late parents, James and Mary Jane Merritt, Deborah inherited a legacy of kindness and perseverance that she carried throughout her life. She was a beacon of light to her family, including her devoted son, Dallas Powell, and his spouse, Dana-Marie; her caring brother, Jimmy Merritt; and her loving sister, Kathy Gay, and her husband, Steve. Deborah was an adored aunt to Tyler and Steven Gay and a beloved niece to her Aunt Cecilia Williams and her husband Eli. The delight of her later years was undoubtedly her role as a grandmother to her cherished grandchildren, Jason Hoover and Brandi Powell.
A woman of deep Christian faith, Deborah’s love for the Lord shone brightly in her daily life and actions. She found solace and strength in her faith, which she expressed passionately through studying her beloved Bible. Furthermore, her creative spirit found its outlet in crafting, a hobby that brought joy to both herself and those fortunate enough to receive a piece of her artwork.
Funeral services were June 17 with Pastor Jesse McCoy officiated. Burial followed at Berea Cemetery.
A healthy Madison County requires great community news.
