Mary Alene Lipscomb Tudor, 85, beloved mother, grandmother, and mother-in-law peacefully passed on Tuesday, Feb. 25, at Baptist Health in Richmond surrounded by her family. She was widowed by her husband Harry Thomas Tudor of Richmond, Kentucky in 2014. They were happily married on Dec. 30th, 1962, at the Methodist Church in Richmond.
Alene was born on Jan. 18th, 1940, at the Gibson Hospital in Richmond, the eldest daughter of Lorine Warner Lipscomb and Lyman Parrish Lipscomb of Dayton, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents and her eldest sister, Joyce Beasley (Sterling), as well as her younger brother Larry Lipscomb (Margaret). She is survived by her other siblings James Parrish Lipscomb (Doris), Billy Lipscomb (Lynn), Debby Lynn LeBlanc (Sam), Fred Lipscomb, Cynthia Jane Schmerber (David), and several nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her two loving daughters Mary Thomas Tudor Emanuel (Larry) and Jennifer Lynn Tudor; six grandchildren, Mary Clay Yelton (Taylor), Mason Thomas Tudor Hamrick, Elijah Hoskins, Kaitlyn Nicole Emanuel, Johnathan Riley Emanuel, and Tristan Blake Emanuel who were the light of her life.
Besides being a wonderful mother, wife, and grandmother, Alene loved learning and valued education. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Dayton, Ohio, in 1958 and was a participant in many extra circulars including the academic club, the newspaper, school council, and choir, as she had a beautiful singing voice. She graduated from Eastern Kentucky University in 1962 with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. She continued to receive her master's in special education as well as a Rank 1. Some of her favorite time learning was when she took classes at Columbia University in New York City for creative writing. She taught in the Madison County school system for over 30 years and was honored by receiving the "Teacher of the Year" award her last year in 2000.
In her youth, Alene's first job was babysitting, then eventually she spent time living with her Aunt Mary (Meyers) and working the cash register at Kroger while at Eastern. She reminisced on these days frequently as she loved spending time with her aunt. In Richmond, she was President of the Charity Ball, President of the garden club, member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, member of the Society of Boonesborough, as well as a Kentucky Colonel.
Other hobbies Alene enjoyed were going to antique sales with her husband and granddaughter, making jewelry, and spending time with her family. She was an avid bridge player, a wonderful cook, and a beautiful singer. She sang in the choir at the First Christian Church in Richmond, Kentucky for many years. She lived her life to the fullest, singing her way through life and always encouraging those around her. Her family believes if you were ever down on yourself, spend a few moments with "Gran."
Alene spent her last years of life at Morning Pointe Assisted Living in Richmond quickly becoming her home away from home. She received outstanding care from the individuals working there and considered them to be family. She spent many days laughing, making crafts, and doing fun activities. The family is thankful for the impeccable care that was given to our "Gran."
