Staying prepared in winter weather

Posted

With the buildup of snow and ice alongside the frigid temperatures, here are some resources and reminders to help you get through the winter storm.

Warming Centers

Listed below are designated warming centers in Madison County. Make sure to call the center to confirm availability before traveling as some are only open on a need basis. You can also check which warming centers are open here.

  • Madison Homes: 105 Fifth Street in Richmond, 859-800-0068
  • Haven of Hope: 301 Steep Street in Richmond, 859-314-4821

Power Outage

If power goes out, report the outage to your electric provider:

  • Blue Grass Energy: Call 888-655-4243 or report it through the BGEnergy mobile app.
  • LGE: Text OUTAGE to 4LGEKU (454358), call 502-589-1444 (LGE) or 800-981-0600 (KU), or report online through your account.
  • SK RECC: Call 800-264-5112, text OUT to 855-927-3057, or report through the app/online.

Plowing

Check for Madison County plowing updates here. Be aware that plowing is handled by the jurisdiction the roads fall under. For example, state roads are cleared by the states, city roads by the city, and county roads by the county. This might cause incongruencies in the timing and ways the roads are cleared.
