Glenna Ruth Carter, 92, passed away Saturday, Sept. 27, 2025, at the University of Kentucky Bluegrass Hospice Care Center in Lexington. She was born in Huntington, West Virginia in 1933 to the late Harold and Agnes Wilkes Carter. Early in life she worked as a paraeducator in the Cabell County school system in Huntington. Glenna was a strong Christian woman with unwavering faith, she was an active member of Berea Baptist Church where she volunteered in the nursery, library, visiting those unable to attend and at the nursing homes. Other than her parents she was preceded in death by her husbands, Gene Scites who died in the Korean Conflict and Robert Eugene Carter the love of her life for over 55 years until his death in 2015. She was also preceded by one son, David Matthew “Matt” Carter, one sister, Mary Carter Allen, and two brothers, Jack and Ron Carter. Glenna is survived by her children, Mark Stephen Carter and his wife Silmara of Berea, and Amy Carter Shehee and her husband, David, of Charlotte, NC. Three grandchildren, Meliss Carter, and Joshua "Josh” Carter, both of Berea, and Luke Shehee of Durham, NC. One sister, Peg Cook of Huntington, W. VA, also survives.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, 2025, in the Ridgelawn Cemetery, 5547 W. Pea Ridge Road, Huntington, W. VA. Davis & Powell Funeral Directors of Berea, entrusted with
arrangements.
