Randall Gibson Curry, 77, passed away on Friday, March 14, at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center after a short illness.

Randall was born on Dec. 27, 1947, in Madison County, and was the son of Ovie Gibson Curry and Margaret Lee Jones Curry, both of whom preceded him in death. He was a graduate of EKU where he received his B.A degree in Agriculture Education. While in college he was a member of the ROTC. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and used his background in education to teach English to Vietnamese soldiers. Randall was a lifelong farmer. He was passionate about all things related to agriculture, whether that be raising Charolais and Hereford cattle, being active in the Kentucky Cattleman’s Association, or serving a term as Madison County Farm Bureau President. He loved to talk “farm talk” with other farmers and would stop by Tri-County Feed several times a week to catch up on the news. He also made his “Breakfast Circuit” quite often to the different restaurants to visit with his friends. Randall was of the Christian faith and was a former song leader and Sunday school superintendent. He had been an active member of the Madison County and Kentucky Republican Party. Randall had many hobbies and interests. Two of those interests included watching Westerns and cheering on the UK Wildcats in basketball. Randall also loved being around the water, fishing (he loved catching crappie) or just watching boats, and was perhaps happiest just sitting on the bank with an old cane pole. He loved his “grand-dogs” Molly and Libby and would spoil them by taking them on rides to get cheeseburgers and ice cream. One of his favorite pastimes in recent days was driving down old country roads with his wife and daughter.

Survivors include: his wife, Brenda Sparks Curry; one daughter, Stephanie Curry Grinnell (Eric); a grandson, Daniel Grinnell; one sister, Sue Curry Begley; a niece, Lori Polly (Eric); a nephew, George Gibson Begley; two great-nieces; and several cousins.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with Rev. Chad Snellgrove and Rev. Matt Vaught officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Richmond Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be: Eric Grinnell, Daniel Grinnell, George Gibson Begley, Pedro Vargas, Rick Azbill, Jason Stewart, Justin Eversole, Ike Horseman, and Tim Brandenburg.
