Shaun Tracy Poynter passed away peacefully in Richmond on July 29, 2025, at the age of 63. Born on Aug. 12, 1961, Shaun was a cherished son, brother, uncle, and friend, known for his tireless work ethic and his profound love for his family and the great outdoors.
Shaun’s journey began as the son of Cecil D. and Frieda L. Poynter, who instilled in him the virtues of hard work and devotion to family—a legacy Shaun carried throughout his life. He shared an unbreakable bond with his siblings, whom he both adored and supported. While he was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Scott, and his sister Vickie, Shaun’s memory is carried on by his beloved sister Terri Poynter, his brother Lawrence Poynter, his nephews Bret Poynter, Michael Poynter, and Eric Poynter, and his great-nephew and great-niece, Sebastian and Mikahlyn.
Shaun’s professional life was as diverse as the Kentucky landscape he so loved. A farmer by calling, a logger by nature, and a builder by skill, he wove his passion for the land into his work; this dedication was brought to life in the fields he tended, the timber he harvested, and the structures he crafted. Shaun’s presence could light up a room. He was known for his wit, which was as sharp as an axe. Those who knew him were familiar with the laughter that followed his storytelling, whatever he could do just to get a chuckle from his family and friends.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 2, 2025, with Pastor Jim Murriner officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lakes Funeral Home.
